Congregation Council and Committees
of St. Mark's Congregation

 

Congregation Council

The Congregation Council meets on the second Monday at 7:30 PM in the Lounge.  The council meetings are generally open to the anyone who wishes to attend.  Individuals or groups desiring to make a presentation to the Council need to make arrangement for agenda time by contacting the Council president EMAIL.  Visitors may participate in council discussion at the discression of the Council president, but have no vote in matters before the Council.

 

Committees

In order to plan and see that congregational work and ministry is carried out for the various areas of the congregation's life, the following committees exist. The committees provide for a division of labor and are vital for enabling the congregation to accomplish its purposes and to achieve its goals.  Committees of the congregation are established by a Continuing Resolution which sets forth their purpose, responsibilities, authorities and resource authorizations.

Standing Committees
Standing committees are the groups which plan, implement and evaluate the mission, worship, work and ongoing ministries of the congregation. Standing committees generally are of a continuing duration.

  • Finance - The Finance Committee meets the first Thursday of each month in the Library.  The mission of the Finance Committee is to provide for:
    • Direct the financial affairs of the congregation.
    • Provide oversight to all committees and groups handling monies of the Church.
    • Advise the Congregation Council on financial matters requiring their attention or action.
       

        
  • Personnel - The Personnel Committee meets as necessary at the call of the committee chairman, usually the third Thursday of the month at 7:30 PM in the Office Conference Room.  The mission of the Personnel Committee is to provide for:
    • The recruiting, contracting, and terminating of the non-called support staff.
    • Developing and administering the church’s personnel policy and guidance.
    • Providing for Staff Support Teams, as required.
    • Providing for the annual budget for "Personnel" 
         
  • Property - Meets the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM in the Office Conference Room.  The mission of the Property Committee is to develop and implement the congregation’s physical and real property maintenance program including:
    • Church Physical Plant
    • Parsonage
    • Friendship House
    • Grounds of the same
         
         
  • Planned Giving
       
      
  • Stewardship - Meets the fourth Tuesday of each month in the Office Conference Room.  The mission of the Stewardship Committee is, working in close coordination with the Finance Committee, to develop and implement the congregation’s stewardship program including:
    • Annual pledge campaign.
    • Quarterly Benevolence Program
    • Stewardship education and awareness information and programs.
        
  • Youth Ministry
    The mission of the Youth Ministry Committee is, working in close coordination with the Christian Education and the Worship and Music Committees, to develop, staff, support and oversee a comprehensive range of programs designed to:
    • Provide an environment within St. Mark’s congregation that supports Christian nurture for its young people and their families.
    • Develop relationships among young people themselves and between young people and adults.
    • Furnish a safe and supportive sanctuary for youth in their time of need.
    • Integrate young people into the overall life of St. Mark’s and the ELCA.
    • Equip them to live as God’s children in today’s world.
